The Grand Adventure of Life

If I didn’t have scratch marks on my tongue

or thistles in my side, I’d be perfectly boring

and un-intriguing.

My flesh is not a perfect painting,

but it is a perfect masterpiece

created by fire and storms and plenty of collisions

on my life’s journey. The fact that I am now comfortable

with these jagged edges gives me an advantage,

a self-confidence I once lacked,

but my comfort didn’t come without pain,

sadness,

losses, trials,

and it didn’t arrive overnight. It took years

to become at peace

with my mind and my body,

to know who I am inside and out.

I continue to bump into walls,

fall into oceans and crash into life,

but I understand now more than ever

that this is part of the grand adventure

in my allotted time on earth.
